This workshop will discuss the kinds of characters and conflicts that make for good reading. It will also consider ways in which participants can develop characters whose experiences, challenges, and discoveries reflect their own. In the pursuit of these goals, we will examine some well-known literary protagonists and discuss why their stories resonate with readers. Participants will then be given time and space to develop a character of their own and place that character in a setting rife with conflict. They will emerge from the workshop armed with the necessary ingredients for composing a narrative that is evocative and meaningful, and reflects what they know to be true.
