Sex Talk with Gender-Expansive Youth and Their Families

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

As the supportive parent or primary caregiver of a transgender or gender-expansive youth, consider the journey you've already been on (or possibly are just beginning) with your child and how far you've come. Perhaps you dealt with everything from how your child presented in preschool, to complicated legal issues over name changes, to dealing with school officials, coming out to friends and family, and mostly simply trying to find a place in the world that accepts your child as they are. And now you've got to talk to them about sex too! But most information out there about sex education doesn't take into account the unique concerns of gender-expansive youth. This presentation will review a range of issues for children of all ages including naming body parts, dating, disclosure, safety and intimacy, and finding language to talk about sexual orientation, safer sex and contraception as it applies to gender-expansive youth.
