Parents and caregivers, how have your experiences with gender and other differences impacted your identity? How do your ideas about gender influence your parenting or caregiving? This workshop is a place to explore these issues together. Laurin Mayeno will share ”Proud Mom,” a brief video about her journey parenting a multi-racial, gender creative, gay son. Participants will then engage in reflection and sharing to explore 1) messages we received about gender and other differences; 2) expectations we learned about gender from family, peers and the world around us; 3) how gender, race, class, religion and other differences have shaped our identities, our dreams, and our expectations of our children; and 4) challenges and successes in supporting our children to be themselves and build healthy identities. Come explore and celebrate the complexity of identity and its impact on parenting gender-expansive children and youth.
