Increasingly, schools are being called upon to meet the needs of transgender and other gender-expansive students. Across all grades and in virtually every aspect of a student’s life, educational institutions face new challenges to ensure that every child has full access to learning. This workshop will examine evolving legislative and policy requirements that are impacting everything from student records to athletic participation. What specific protections are in place for students? What if state or local districts do not explicitly have such protections in place? Where do anti-bullying laws fit in? In addition to these and other topics, the workshop will also include discussions about first amendment speech and expression issues, protections for teachers and schools, and legal implications in private school settings.
